Excerpt from the previous WORDY article.
“It all becomes mud when it leaves the mind, but if you take all those re-translations and attempts of teachers from every time, in every culture and combine them into one amalgamated feeling, it is this: “You are not alone.” This is probably the most desired thing to realize, and really feel, in human existence. It is the essence of love. It needs many volumes to explain, because you can’t feel it in this simple phrase. It can’t really be experienced without discovering it in the world outside. From connecting with others. The other most important thing is to feel that you can make some difference, or affect in the world, to prove to yourself and others that you, in fact, do exist.”
I wanted to leave it at that and modify the second idea a bit with a little probing. The second need may only be a means to an end. If you are a singular consciousness dwelling inside a singular body, how can you prove that the other images you see outside your imagination are truly real. You can try to make some change in the world and see if it stays constant. The other way is to make an impact on others, to see the reactions to you, and between them. These support the feeling that you are not alone inside yourself.
The primary need is really a deep connection with someone. A persistent communication that attempts to bring into the darkness of your singularity, another traveler. This is a frightening prospect for most people, and in all practicality, impossible. The best we can do is strive towards pure openness and trust, with the same acceptance for the other. How would you feel about having someone with you in your thoughts? Pretty scary! Unless you truly trusted them and felt so comfortable that you would allow it. I believe that through all our travels in history and future, we want to feel safe enough to do that as a whole, and form one being. Wouldn’t that be the most powerful being ever!? Like the BORG! Maybe that is what the quote in the previous article was also trying to say. “We are divided, but we can be one”? This explains some of the huge explosions of prosperity and technology. We embraced the telegraph, printing press, the internet, cell phones, facebook. We want to be together, we want to connect. It really is a matter of acceptance. I think it will take many thousands more years, maybe even millions. With so many separate pursuits, and distracted desires, our fears. I have faith in humanity, it will just take time to learn to listen, to understand, to feel that your needs are also mine. It is very hard, but also very simple.
